Join Ito Yosakoi as we learn yosakoi together online on Zoom. This energetic dance style originates from Kochi, Japan, and features a combination of traditional and modern elements. This workshop is co-hosted with the Berkeley Buddhist Temple.

For this workshop, we will learn the seminal yosakoi dance, “Seichou Yosakoi.” This is the original yosakoi dance from Kochi, Japan, and participating teams at the Kochi Yosakoi Festival are required to reference this song in their performance. You can preview the dance at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ8ZYBgvTRA

Workshop Instructions

  • Please wear comfortable clothing and have water on hand.
  • Please give yourself enough space to move around.
  • If you are comfortable, please turn on your video, as it is helpful for the instructors to see participants to adjust the class’ pace. If you do not want to turn on your video for any reason, that is okay too.

If you have disabilities or require physical accommodations, or would otherwise like to contact us, please email itoyosakoi@gmail.com
