Learn the ancient Japanese art of Shibori or indigo tie-dye.  In this virtual workshop, students will follow along on Zoom from home as we learn techniques for tying, folding, and dipping your fabric.  Then students will learn how to prepare a vat of indigo dye.

Due to social distancing this workshop will be a virtual workshop.  We recommend setting it up in a place where you can get a little messy (due to the nature of indigo dye).  If you can’t go outdoors you can put paper or plastic down to protect the floor.  If you can’t set up and just want to watch the demo, that is ok.  Each student will get a downloadable pdf with instructions after the class.

Supplies List

Please gather and prepare the following supplies in advance of the workshop:

– a couple of 100% cotton pieces to dye.  (ie t-shirt, pillowcase, tea towels, apron, quilting fabric)

– Bucket that can get stained

– Something to stir with

– Scissors

– Gloves

– Plastic or paper to put on the ground

– Iron

– Rubber Bands and String

– Zoom account
