We’re staying safe from COVID-19 this year for Halloween by bringing our annual Japantown Halloween Carnival with JCYC online on Facebook Live! Join us from home for a frightfully fun evening and enjoy:

  • Halloween Crafts activities
  • Spooky Storytelling
  • Cultural Performances
  • Virtual Costume Parade and Contest*
  • Virtual Jack-O’-Lantern Carving Contest*

*Costume and Jack-O’-Lantern Carving Contest participants must submit entries online by midnight on Tuesday, October 27th. Completion of the Center’s photo/video release form by a parent/guardian on the online contest entry form is required.

Our costume contest and jack-o’-lantern carving contest will both be judged by members of the community this year! Enter into either contest to win Halloween treats and prizes from the Center and JCYC!

 

Important dates:

  • Tuesday, October 27, midnight – Last day to submit your entries for the costume and jack-o’-lantern carving contests
  • Wednesday, October 28 – Community voting for costume contest and jack-o’-lantern carving contest on the Center’s Facebook page begins
  • Friday, October 30, noon – Community voting for costume contest and jack-o’-lantern carving contest on Facebook ends
  • Friday, October 30, 6:00pm – Tune in to watch the Japantown Virtual Halloween Carnival on Facebook Live at the Center’s Facebook page!

2020 Costume Contest Rules

Enter to win a prize in our costume contest for having the cutest, scariest, most creative, or most spirited family/group costume! Go to the Center’s Facebook page to vote on your favorite costume with the rest of the community! The Japantown Community Choice Award will be given to the costume with the most total likes/votes!

  • Contestants are encouraged to submit a photo in costume, short video clips with greetings of “Happy Halloween!” or “Trick or treat!” are welcome!
  • Contestants for the costume contest must be under 12 years old unless part of a family/group costume
  • One submission per contestant or family/group
  • Submissions must be received by midnight on Tuesday, October 27
  • All valid entries will be posted as part of the Costume Contest photo album on the Center’s Facebook page at noon on Wednesday, October 28; community voting on Costume Contest entries to begin upon the photo album post going live
  • Submitted entries will list the contestant’s first name, last initial, age, town/city, and title of costume
  • Community voting on the costume contest to end at noon on Friday, October 30
  • Costume Contest slideshow “parade” to be shown and winners to be announced during the Facebook Live broadcast of the Japantown Virtual Halloween Carnival program at 6:00pm on Friday, October 30
  • Contest winners to be contacted following the event to receive prizes.

Enter to win a prize in our jack-o’-lantern carving contest for having the cutest, scariest, most creative, or most spirited family/group jack-o’lantern! Japantown Community Choice Award given to the jack-o’-lantern with the most total likes/votes!
