Artist in Residence Program

JCCCNC is fortunate to be able to support both traditional Japanese cultural artists and community artists in our cooperative efforts to provide opportunities for people of all ages to learn about Japanese and Japanese American cultural and traditional arts.

For traditional cultural artists, JCCCNC is a vehicle to outreach, teach and pass on their cultural discipline. Having received training in Japan, they choose to teach at JCCCNC to outreach to the JA community by becoming a part of an informal network of cultural resources for community performances and school visits.

For community artists, JCCCNC provides an artist-in-residence studio – a place to teach, collaborate, create new work, and give back to the JA community. Community artists offer classes at various levels, for children, adults, and seniors and outreach through performances for schools and the community. While some of their training has been from Eastern and Western art forms, community artists explore avenues for their own professional development and contemporary expressions at JCCCNC.
