Interested in Japanese Kabuki theatre? Join us for a special class focusing on a film screening of one of the most popular plays in Kabuki theatre. “Sukeroku, Flower of Edo” takes you deep into the “floating world” of the Yoshiwara pleasure quarters, a world of gorgeous courtesans, young heroes, and dastardly villains. The story tells of how the dashing folk hero Sukeroku and his partner Agemaki, the top courtesan at the Miuraya teahouse, conspire to defeat the corrupt samurai Ikyu. The play features an all-star cast.
In Japanese with English translation. Class is free and open to the public. All ages welcome!
