Types of Events
The JCCCNC sponsors, plans, hosts and participates in a wide
variety of events. See the types of events that we hold on an
ongoing basis. From exhibits to performing arts, the JCCCNC remains
an active center in the community!
Here is just a sample of JCCCNC activities:
Cultural & Community Events
JCCCNC provides support and co-sponsors events in conjunction with
other local organizations to assist in their charters and to embrace
the needs of the community. Assistance can be in the form
of providing venue space, funding or resources, and collaborative
resources.
Events such as Nihonmachi Street Fair, Kodomo No Hi (Children's
Day), Cherry Blossom Festival, Day of Remembrance (DOR), Halloween
Festival, Oshogatsu (New Year Celebration) and Holiday and Art Fairs
are examples of events that JCCCNC supports on an annual basis.

Performing
Arts
The JCCCNC supports local community performing artists in presenting
their talents to the community in events and productions throughout
the year. All of our instructors are dedicated in preserving the
history and culture of the art they teach, and are always delighted
to be able to present their art to the Japantown community, as well
as expose their artistry to others through performances and events
throughout the world.
One of the JCCCNC’s premiere performing arts events is the
annual Soko Art Festival, a theatrical production that began in
June 2001. This gathering of talented artists is a mix of traditional
Japanese and contemporary music, dance, spoken word, theatre and
comedy.
Soko
Arts provides a revitalization of the arts in the community. Soko
Arts gives artists the opportunity to acknowledge their heritage,
culture, and to recognize their role in the community. It is their
hope to develop support for community arts and artist through their
annual production.

Book
Signings & Film Screenings
JCCCNC celebrates the work of Japanese and Asian Americans in books
and film with book signings, film screenings, workshops and discussions
throughout the year. By hosting these events by a diverse group
of authors, artists and producers, the hope is to allow the community
to learn about its history and heritage through the creative minds
of the artists we present.
