Interested in Japanese Kabuki theatre? Join us for a special class focusing on a video of the play, “The Six Poet Immortals” (Rokkasen Sugata no Irodori). Synopsis: https://www.kabuki21.com/rsi.php
The story involves a group of medieval poets, all hailed as literary geniuses, who have come to woo the legendary Ono no Komochi, renowned for her talent and beauty, as well as her disdain for her many suitors. Kabuki’s treatment of each character is very witty and undercuts the high-brow image of the poets in this delightful dance piece.
Featuring an all-star cast. In Japanese with English translation. The class is free and open to the public. Feel free to bring snacks. All ages welcome!
If you are curious about why Kabuki’s unique combination of drama, music, dance, and spectacle continues to entertain millions every year, “here’s your chance to see one of the finest Kabuki films ever made, free, amongst fans and experts who will gladly fill you in on all the social and historical aspects of the performance” (Flavorpill “Editor’s Pick”).
