Interested in Japanese Kabuki theatre? Join us for a special class focusing on a video of the classic Kabuki drama, “Doumyouji Temple.”
Falsely accused of treason and exiled to distant Kyushu, the imperial minister Sugawara is granted a final chance to say farewell to his beloved daughter, Princess Kariya. The scene is a famous and moving example of “oyako no wakare,” or parting of parent and child. Featuring an all-star cast. (synopsis: http://www.kabuki21.com/domyoji.php). (In Japanese with English translation).
Class is free and open to the public. Feel free to bring snacks. All ages welcome!
