Lori Matoba Joins JCCCNC as Programs Director

February 27, 2004

Lori MatobaSAN FRANCISCO (February 27, 2004) - With the recent departure of Jill Shiraki, the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) welcomes Lori Matoba as new Program Director.

As a youth, Lori attended Kinmon Gakuen (Japanese Language School) and participated in Odori (traditional Japanese dance). Raised and educated in San Francisco, Lori has worked routinely for Japantown merchants, including Pacific Leisure Management and Okabe Sports. She has consistently given her time to the Japantown Cherry Blossom Festival Golf Committee, JCCCNC programs and events, and is dedicated to youth programs including the Shinzen Nikkei Youth Goodwill Basketball Program, Buddhist Church of San Francisco Youth Athletic Organization, and the San Francisco Drakes Basketball organization.

Lori’s belief in JCCCNC is influenced by her strong family ties, “In my heart I stay active in the Japanese American community because of my Grandmother -- she is my constant reminder of what Nihonmachi should be. I believe that JCCCNC is a keystone here in San Francisco which fosters this legacy that my Grandmother instilled in me – this is where we will continue to learn about our Nikkei history, discover our Japanese culture and traditions so we can continue to make positive contributions to this community.”

Lori currently resides in San Francisco and joined the JCCCNC team in February 2004. She will lead the programs department by developing new programs and events for the JCCCNC, as well as manage all aspects of planning and execution in hopes of keeping JCCCNC a vibrant place for all generations.
