Nikkei Sports Scholarship Raffle Draws Near

SAN FRANCISCO (October 21, 2003) - Less than a week remains until the drawing for the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California’s (JCCCNC) Nikkei Sports Scholarship. Raffle tickets cost $2 each or 12 tickets for $20.

The Grand Prize is two roundtrip tickets to Japan courtesy of All Nippon Airways and 3 nights hotel accommodations. Additional prizes include two night stay at the Reno Hilton plus $250 cash, a San Francisco Get Away which includes two night deluxe accommodations at the Nikko Hotel, a full session at the Kabuki Hot Springs and two tickets to the preview of Disney’s Lion King and finally a Lion King Package which includes two premium orchestra tickets to the preview of Disney's Lion King and dinner for two.

The JCCCNC established the Nikkei Youth Sports Scholarship Program to help provide financial assistance for local graduating high school seniors. Annually, four graduating seniors receive $1,000 scholarships. Scholarship recipients are selected based upon community involvement and leadership potential. Applicants must have participated in Nikkei Sports Leagues or community leagues.

“I will dedicate my life to politics where I will fight for my community, and what I strongly believe in,” states 2003 scholarship recipient Keith Kimoto who is currently a Political Science major at City College of San Francisco. “Everything I learned through the JCCCNC, my high school experience, and playing basketball for the San Francisco Associates, has given me so much confidence in my ambition to become a politician, and fight for the people and the Japanese American Community.”

The drawing is scheduled for Friday, October 31st, 2003.
